These low calorie recipes are delectable and will keep you smacking your lips rather than worry you to make you count the calories.

#7 Berry Beet Smoothie

Beetroot is a powerhouse performer for low calorie diets as it is not only rich in nutrients but also helps reduce blood pressure, boost stamina and helps you detoxify. Berries on the other hand lend the yummy to the healthy beetroot with their natural sweet and tangy essences which are high in vitamin C’s. This smoothie is definitely a go to for a filling low calorie recipe ideal for breakfast.

Ingredients you will need:

  • 1 small steamed and finely chopped or grated Beetroot
  • 1 small banana
  • 1 grapefruit juice ( pulpy )
  • 1-2 tbsp sweetener ( you could use honey ) *optional*
  • 100 gm  Berries of your choice (Blueberries and Strawberries work wonders for this recipe )
  • Water to loosen the consistency as per your requirement

Steps for preparation :

  • Prepare your grapefruit by removing the segments and the skin. Add them to the blender and remember to keep it pulpy. Do not strain.
  • Add the other fruits and Beet one by one . (Use a good blender in order to avoid large chunks. We need it to be pulpy but not chunky)
  • Once the blending is done do a taste check and only add a sweetener if you need it. Water can be added to mellow down the consistency as per you requirement.
  • Garnish the smoothie with Berries or Mint.

#6 Berry Pomegranate Greek Yogurt Bark

This is one of the  low calorie recipes which is extremely easy to make and can be stored for a long  time. Berry Pomegranate Greek yogurt is a perfect low calorie snack which requires minimal ingredients to make.

Ingredients you will need :

  • 1-2 Tbsp Coconut Water
  • 3 Cups of Greek Yogurt ( Available for cheap at local dairies near you )
  • 2-3 tbsp Honey ( If you need it to be sweeter use 4 tbsp)
  • ½ a cup Pomegranate seeds
  • ½ cup Berries of your choice finely chopped or shredded.

Steps for preparation :

  • Blend all the ingredients together .
  • Pour the batter into a tin container and Freeze for 3-4 hours .
  • (The recipe can be stored in safe bags for over a month in the refrigerator )
  • The protein intake for this particular recipe is : 3.50 gm
  • Calories :42
  • Fat: 2.4 gm
  • Fiber: 0.20 gm

#5 Skinny Mushroom Soup

A soup is always a great option to fill your stomach with the least amount of calories. Mushroom is known to decrease the risk of obesity coupled with lowering heart diseases and diabetes. The high antioxidants in mushroom which are also seen in carrots, beans and pumpkins, get rid of radicals that’s cause cancer. It is an easy dinner recipe to make.

You will require :

  • 250 gm of white mushrooms finely diced or chopped
  • 100 gm Portobello mushroom sliced
  • 1 small onion diced finely
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ cup flour
  • 2 cups vegetable broth
  • 3 cups water
  • Salt to taste
  •  1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp  oregano
  • 1 ½ tbsp garlic (optional)

How to prepare :

  • Heat the vessel in medium heat. Melt the butter along with olive oil. Add the garlic an let it brown. Add onions, Mushrooms and oregano and cook on medium flame for 5-7 minutes until soft and tender.
  • Now add the flour one spoon at a time and mix well with the ingredients. Keep cooking for another 5 minutes.
  • Gradually start adding the broth followed by water while continuously stirring.
  • Lower the heat and let the soup cook for 30 minutes. Stir every 5-10 minutes.
  • Puree the soup. Add a dash of salt and pepper and cook for another 10 minutes on mild flame.
  • Garnish with thyme or rosemary.

#4 Mattar Chaat /Matra

Low calorie food does not have to be synonymous with bland and boring. You can always jazz up things a bit. This recipe will not only tickle you taste buds but also compliment your low carb diet. Famous in Delhi and gorged by hundreds on the street, this is one of my favorite low calorie recipes.

Ingredients you will need :

  •  2 cups Maatra (dried white peas)
  • 5 cups Water
  • 2 tsp Salt (or to taste )
  • 3/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 2 tsp Refined Oil (optional)
  • 3/4 tsp Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  •  2 pinches Hing /Asofoetida
  • 2 Tbsp Tamarind Chutney or Sonth
  • 5 tsp Kedara Peela Chaat Masala

For Garnishing:

  • 1 cup Onion Finely Chopped
  • 1 cup Tomatoes Finely Diced
  • ½ Cup Ginger Julienned
  • ¼ cup Green Chillies
  • ¼ cup Coriander
  • 2 lemon (cut in halves)

How to prepare :

  • Soak Matara for 8-10 hours /overnight . Remove the outer skin of the matara with your fingers as much as possible.  Strain the water.
  • Add water and boil for ½ an hour. You can pressure cook if you like the mataras to be too mashed.
  • Heat a pan at low heat . Add oil (optional) , Add Jeera  and hing. Saute for about a minute.
  • Add the Peela Chat Masala . You can decide the amount as per your liking.
  • Add the Tamarind Chutney and mix well.
  • Add the Mataras. Make sure the water is not separate from the mataras and is well mixed.
  • Cook for 5 minutes.
  • Serve hot with Garnishing on the side.
  • You can choose to have this with Kulchas but it can be had by itself as well.

#3 Cuban Black Beans and Rice

The Cuban Black Beans are a nutritional delight. These beans are storehouse to a multiplicity of nutrients like protein, antioxidants, fiber, vitamins and minerals. It is known to fight against heart diseases, obesity and cure certain nutrient deficiencies in people. It is known to reduce Cholesterol and thus makes it an ideal ingredient for a low calorie recipe.

Ingredients you will need:

  • 1-2 cups Black Beans
  • 1 cup Basmati rice or any long grained rice (you can opt for brown rice if you want )
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 Onion Finely Chopped
  • 1-2 Tomatoes Finely Chopped
  • 1 Bell Pepper cut into small (1/4th inch ) pieces (optional)
  • 2 Garlic Cloves
  • 1 tsp dried herbs (Oregano and Chilly Flakes)
  • 1 tbsp Red Wine Vinegar ( you can choose apple cider vinegar or regular vinegar )
  • 1 tsp Cumin Powder
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • 1/4th cup Cilantro chopped


  • In a heated pan add olive oil . Add the onion along with bell peppers and tomatoes. Stir till they soften and the onions brown. Add Salt and Pepper ( approx. 1/4th tsp ). Keep stirring for about 5 minutes on medium heat.
  • Add the cumin powder along with the mixed herbs and let the flavor melt into the vegetables.
  • Add the cooked beans (boiled) along with 1 cup of water. Stir for 10 minutes.
  • Add the vinegar and start to mash the beans.  Once the consistency thickens, remove the pan off the flame and serve hot along with the rice.
  • Sprinkle Cilantro on top and relish this savory low calorie recipe.

Low calorie diet - Cuban Black Beans

#2 Shakshuka

Just like matra chaat, shakshuka is spicy and low in calorie. The traditional Shakshuka recipe involves eggs but if you don’t eat eggs then replace eggs with tofu or paneer.

Ingredients you will need:

  • 1 medium-size onion chopped
  • 1 tomato chopped
  • 1/4 red peppers chopped
  • 1/4 yellow pepper chopped
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/4 tsp chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp tomato puree
  • 4-6 eggs
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt as per your taste

For garnishing:

  • Fresh coriander leaves


  • In a frying pan, heat oil. Add onions to the pan and stir well. Add tomatoes, puree and peppers when onions turn translucent. Stir till they soften. Add all your spices and mix everything well.
  • Now crack eggs carefully on top of your gravy.
  • Switch the flame to low and cover the pan. Cook for 5 minutes and remove the cover. Check if the eggs are done.

Garnish your dish with coriander leaves and serve with bread.

#1 Strawberry Ice-Cream

So we all restrain ourselves from desserts when we think of low calorie food, but don’t you worry this low calorie recipe is not only scrumptious but is very healthy too. The ice cream is dairy free and has no refined sugar. Nonetheless it tastes like heaven in every bite.

Ingredients you will need:

  • 2 cans of coconut milk (preferably full fat for a thicker consistency, refrigerated for at least 24 hours )
  • 1/4th cup unrefined cane sugar/coconut sugar
  • 200 gm Fresh strawberries chopped
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp light corn syrup (optional)
  • 1 tbsp Balsamic Vinegar


  • In a bowl add the chopped strawberries and then add vinegar. This procedure will let the strawberries release all its juices. Cover the bowl and leave it aside.
  • In another bowl add the thick coconut milk . Avoid the watery part as much as you can.
  • Whip it on high speed with an electric hand mixer . The texture once ready should be that of a nice frothy whipped cream.
  • The slowly add the sugar and keep whipping for around 2 minutes. (Do taste the mixture if the amount of sweetness as according to your preference)
  • Now add the vanilla extract and the corn syrup and mix well with a spatula.
  • Add the strawberries next and mix well with a spatula.
  • Now add the batter in a refrigerator container and freeze it overnight or atleast for 8 hours.
