For us book lovers, books are like air, food, and water. We need it to survive in this regular muggle world. And a Book Series which offers an escape way to the fantasy world is the only thing what a Harry Potter fan desires to have. This article is for those Potterheads who are searching for their next fantasy read.

Here is a list of 6 book series you’ll like. You may have read some of them, now it’s time to go through the others:

#1 The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins

Suzanne Collins successfully develops a fictional world, a lot like Hogwarts, where incredible and unlimited things can happen. You’ve probably read this series already. If you haven’t, read it soon. Set in a futuristic dystopian world, where a girl and a boy from twelve districts must play a deadly game to bring food and supplies to his or her district. Only one can survive this fatal game. The story starts when “Katniss Everdeen” from the poorest district of the country, enters the lethal sport named, The Hunger Games.

This book series is narrated from the perspective of 16 years old, Katniss Everdeen who lives in “District 12,” one of the 13 districts that make up the nation known as “Panem.” Panem was created after North America of the present world got destroyed (an event in the future). It has a ‘Capitol’ city which is rich and luxurious as compared to the other districts. It acts like the capital of Panem, which looks into functioning of the nation. It decides to punish the districts for a rebellion they once held. So they send Katniss and Peeta to the Hunger Games from “District 12”. The Hunger Games is broadcasted for the entire nation to watch. Only one is allowed to survive by the end of the games. The participants of the games are known as ‘tributes’. The novel titles are The Hunger Games trigology are-‘The Hunger Games’, ‘Catching Fire’ and ‘Mockingjay’.

#2 The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini

The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini is based on a ficitional world called “Alagaesia”. The series is based on a teenage boy named Eragon and his dragon, Saphira. Eragon is one of the last Dragon Riders. Eragon and Saphira’s motive is to kill the antagonist or the evil king, Galbatorix. He was responsible for the fall of the Dragon Riders. The series so far has four books namely- ‘Eragon’, ‘Eldest’, ‘Brisingr’ and ‘Inheritance’.

This fantasy book series begins when Eragon discovers a Dragon egg. But, his epic adventure starts when he discovers he is last of the Dragon Riders, and that makes him face dangerous enemies. The first novella of this series, Eragon has been already turned into a movie.

#3 A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket

A Series of Unfortunate Events is a thirteen novels book series; the books are- ‘The Bad Beginning’, ‘The Reptile Room’, ‘The Wide Window’, ‘The Miserable Mill’, ‘The Austere Academy’, ‘The Ersatz Elevator’, ‘The Vile Village’, ‘The Hostile Hospital’, ‘The Carnivorous Carnival’, ‘The Slippery Slope’, ‘The Grim Grotto’, ‘The Penultimate Peril’, ‘The End’.

After the tragic death of their parents, the three Baudelaire siblings- Violet, Klaus and Sunny, are sent to live with a distant relative, “Count Olaf”, who has his eyes set on their fortune and can cross all the boundaries to have it. He even tries setting up plots with the help of his accomplices to capture the Baudelaire siblings, as they make attempts to escape. The book series is based on the themes of Victorian Gothic era and Theatre of Absurdity. The novels narrate the psychological transition of the children from innocence of childhood to maturity. They even discover the conspiracies around their parents and Olaf through a secret society. Though you might feel disconnected from the novels at moments, the philosophical ambivalence will compel you to turn the pages again and again.

#4 The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis

Already made into BBC TV Series and a motion picture, the story starts when a young boy named “Digory” stumbles in an unknown world named “Narnia”. But, the more popular story is the stories of “Pevensie siblings”, as they entered Narnia and it is disclosed only they can save Narnia from the evil queen, the “White Witch”. The series has the following novels- ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’, ‘Prince Caspian’, ‘The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’, ‘The Silver Chair’, ‘The Horse and His Boy’, ‘The Magician’s Nephew’ and ‘The Last Battle’.

Narnia is not a place one finds on the map, it is a completely fictional. It is a world of utmost fantasy created by C.S. Lewis, with magic, mythical beasts and talking animals. The Pevensie siblings during the war go to live away from their family. Once while they play hide-and-seek in the new mansion that they were living in, one of the siblings, Lucy while hiding in the wardrobe, ends up in a completely different world. This is how Narnia is discovered. Then she meets Mr. Tumnus and learns about the White Witch. Later she revisits Narnia with her other siblings Edmund, Susan and Peter. Thus starts their adventures. They also come across a talking lion, Aslan who helps them fight the White Witch. Interesting isn’t it? This is just a little from the first part of the book series. There are many other characters introduced, with new adventures and its a treat to read all of it. So if you ask yourself, ‘what series should I read next?’ This is the one. And if you are a Potterhead, you are thoroughly going to enjoy this book series.

#5 Inkworld by Cornelia Funke

The Inkworld trilogy is written by the German author, Cornelia Funke. The novels in this book series are- ‘Inkheart’, ‘Inkspell’ and ‘Inkdeath’. The novels describe the adventures of a teenager Meggie Folchart. She realizes that her father Mo, who is a bookbinder, has the supernatural gift of bringing characters from books into life by reading the books aloud. This secret is discovered by Meggie ten years after her father secretly hands over a book to his wife’s aunt, Elinor. But while doing so he is kidnapped by Capricorn. Thus, Meggie’s adventure to find her father begins. All this while, one of Mo’s accomplices Dustfinger who was helping Meggie turns out to be a traitor. Yet again there are different changes in the role of the characters.

#6 Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer

This is another novel series written by Irish author, Eoin Colfer that can take you into the land of fantasy creatures, only to feel the darkness of the world. Artemis Fowl, a 12 years old genius has set his target on elves’ gold, which can bring wealth beyond imagination to him. Holly, a fairy captured by Artemis, takes it on herself to stop Artemis with the help of a cynic and paranoid centaur, Foaly and a useful but not trustworthy dwarf, Mulch Diggums. In its sequel, Artemis along with the help of the fairies tries to rescue his father from the Russian mafia. Similarly, the following sequels have very interesting plots. So, go grab this series today.

The book series has eight novels namely- ‘Artemis Fowl’, ‘The Arctic Incident’, ‘The Eternity Code’, ‘The Opal Deception’, ‘The Lost Colony’, ‘The Time Paradox’, ‘The Atlantis Complex’ and ‘The Last Guardian’.
