#10 The Iron Lady (2011)

The iron lady is the biopic of British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. Although the movie might not be a great one, Streep’s performance is. Streep was the star performer who kept the movie going and made it a must watch movie.  She is amazing in what she has done and brought the character of Margaret live on screen. She was  massively appreciated for her work.

#8 Julie & Julia(2009)

Written and directed by Nora Ephron, Julie & Julia is one of the best work by Meryl Streep. The movie revolves around the life of two chefs, Julie and Julia and the struggles they had to overcome to live their goals and dreams. Meryl plays the role of Julia Child, and is wonderful at it as always. Meryl received critic’s appreciation for her performance in this culinary comedy.  She even went on to win the Golden Globe for her role. Here is a quote by movie critic A.O. Sophie’s Choice became the first movie for which Meryl won her 1st Oscar in the leading role in 1982. Meryl plays Sophie, a Polish immigrant who shares a boarding house with her lover Nathan, and a young writer, Stingo. Meryl Streep films have a reputation of excellent performances from her,  this movie being no different. depicting a big performance, Streep has nailed every aspect of her role very well.

In Mike Nichols’, Silkwood, a film on blue collar life, Meryl depicts the true story of Karen Silkwood, a whistle blower labor union activist mysteriously killed in a car crash. Nominated for best actress yet again proves that she puts everything she has to her roles and comes up with masterpiece every single time. The sensitive Meryl has been replaced by a strong, determined and powerful Karen. A must watch it is.

First ever movie on a Vietnam war, The Deer Hunter was Streep’s first ever major role that gave her her first Oscar nominations.  She plays Linda, the girlfriend of one of the men returning from war. Movies and roles based on wars are difficult and one of the most challenging roles to portray. to be playing someone who is indirectly affected by it, she has successfully played her part. Though she failed to win the award, this role paved way for many more great acting opportunities for Meryl Streep.

A Meryl Streep movie and no Academy Award nomination that is almost impossible. Playing the villain, yet managing to bring humanity in her role can only be done by the great Meryl herself. The boss who terrorizes her assistant with almost impossible tasks, Meryl has brought a different side of hers to light in this movie.

The challenging role of  a mother facing divorce and child custody, Kramer Vs Kramer is considered one of the most amazing performances of all time by Meryl Streep.  Her character could have easily be hated, but the opposite happened, all thanks to Meryl’s effort. She won her first ever Oscar for her most real performance. This movie and her role is an unforgettable treat to all Meryl Streep fans. This is truly one of the best Meryl Streep movies.
