Social Media sites give us a platform where people, living anywhere in the world, can not only connect with each other but can also create ideas and share information seamlessly.
We are living in digital age where Social Media platforms have become an integral part of our lives. From WhatsApp to Facebook, our life is surrounded by these platforms. Whether there is natural disaster or a celebrity gives birth to her first-born, we get this information on a click of a button. We don’t have to turn on our televisions to listen to latest or breaking news.
Social Media has made our lives easier but has been it able to do what it was created for? Are we getting closer or our are we drifting apart from each other?
Today, when friends part ways; they are able to stay connected with each other. With busy life, they can wish a friend happy birthday or congratulate. We are even more connected with our close family members than before. But are we really close or our we the followers? I, once, had a friend told me, ‘I liked her picture because our mutual friends liked it.‘ We don’t call our friends they are going through tough times; we just use emoticons to express our grief. We have become so lazy that we don’t even want to use Skype or other video calling platforms.
We hide behind our smartphones more now. We feel awkward when we need to strike a conversation face-to-face. These platforms have made us communication-disabled. Unfortunately, the purpose social media platforms came into existence has failed miserably.
