Disney Movies have always delighted children as well as the older ones. One can never overcome the excitement of watching a Disney movie. While all those happy endings mesmerize you, have you ever wondered about the origin of these fairy tales?
Most of the Disney movies have their origin from most R-Rated books, and their conclusions are often changed to please the audience which is mostly kids or teenagers. Disney movies from Anastasia to Rapunzel, all have had the history of horrid scripts turned to sweet ones.
Here are your ultimate favourites with freakish origins and mind boggling stories.
#1 THE LITTLE MERMAID
In the original story by Hans Christian Andersen’s “ The Little Mermaid”, the mermaid dies at the end when she fails to get the prince and jumps in to the sea and turns into foam, unlike the Disney version of the prince and mermaid living happily ever after…….
Our favorite character, Fairy God Mother just doesn’t exist in the original adaption of “Grimm’s Fairy Tales” which is a very nasty one. Her ugly stepsisters try to cut and bleed their feet to fit into the slippers. Also, at their wedding , Cinderella has her little birds fly down from heaven and peck off her sisters’ eyes.
#3 THE JUNGLE BOOK
The innocent Mowgli isn’t the same in the original Jungle Book – a short story by Rudyard Kipling, Mowgli is just a murderous villain who along with Hathi and Bagheera returns back to the jungle when unwelcomed by the villagers.
#4 THE FOX AND THE HOUND
Despite the differences Tod and Copper, a hound dog and a red fox, grow up, managing their instincts, while they are meant to be natural enemies. In the tales, they remain best friends forever. However, in the real version by Daniel P Mannix, Tod dies with exhaustion while Copper is shot by his owner with a shot gun. A bloody matter!
#5 THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG
Though there have been many versions of the Frog Prince Tale, another Grimm’s Tale has suggested ways like burning the frog alive, hurling him against the wall and ripping off his skin. The Disney guys replaced the torture with a simple kiss and everything worked alright.
#6 PETER PAN
Don’t you blame our Captain Hook for the innocent killings. The stories of Peter Pan originated from the book “The Little Bird” and what we know are modified versions of plays. All Disney did was replace the cobwebbed brown suit with a fresh girl coat and a heroic Peter…. Not much change….Wink!
#7 SLEEPING BEAUTY
The original story, by Giambattista Basile, states that sleeping beauty lies amongst the corpses when abandoned by her father. The Prince is unable to wake up our sleeping beauty and eventually rapes her and leaves her, she then becomes pregnant and delivers twins, and one of then sucks on her finger drawing the splinter and wakes his mother.
This tale has been turned into many movies in many languages where Rapunzel has a very sweet happy ending with the witch dying, of course. The Grimm’s original story contains a longer route to the happy end, with the witch throwing the prince off the window and cutting off Rapunzel’s hair and sending her off to the slums upon discovering her pregnancy. And after a series of hustle bustle and hush, the prince and Rapunzel live happily with their twins.
