7 Indian Sportsmen Who Qualify As Goodwill Ambassador for Rio Olympics

Indian Olympics Association (IOA) recently chose Salman Khan as Goodwill Ambassador for Rio Olympics. This decision has garnered mixed reactions. Few people support this decision; while few think it is an incorrect decision. While one may argue that celebrities play an important role as influencing the society; the game has certainly changed in the last few years. India has started to recognize young sportsmen and sportswomen talent. A sports player could be influence society just like a celebrity would. While the decision has been made, nonetheless, these 7 sportsmen and women are well-recognized Indian faces who qualify to represent India at Rio Olympics.

#1 Saina Nehwal

This girl from Haryana has shown to the world of badminton that Indians can excel in it. She was the first Indian to win a medal for badminton in Olympics and in 2015 she bagged the world’s number 1 position in badminton. All the more, she will be a participant at Rio Olympics. Need we say more?

#2 Vijendra Singh

He too won a bronze at Beijing Olympics and set a place for Indian Boxers on the international level. Moreover he has also entered into the glamour world by bagging a few movies. He is a role model for lot of aspiring young people and could have been a great choice for this post.

#3 Sania Mirza

This Hyderabad girl is the current world number 1 in women’s doubles. Her great skills and charming presence has got everyone mesmerized. She could have been a great option too for this post.

#4 Leander Paes

He has won eight doubles and eight mixed double Grand Slam doubles and he is clearly an ace at it. He has always been consistent in her performance and needless to say he is an excellent person too. He could have easily represented our contingent at Rio Olympics.

Coming from a weak background, this woman has surely proved herself in the world of sports. Her biopic was beautifully portrayed in Indian cinema played by Priyanka Chopra. She is a five times world champion and has got a bronze medal I London Olympics. She could have been one of the best contenders for this post.

After winning the French Open Mixed doubles title in 1997 in tennis, Mahesh Bhupathi has become a star of our country. His well mannered nature and pleasing personality could have made him an apt person for the post of goodwill ambassador.

#7 Abhinav Bindra

This guy is a heart-throb for thousands of Indian girls. Having won the gold in Men’s 10m air rifle at 2008 Beijing Olympics, he literally raised India’s position in world of sports. IOA simply shouldn’t have ignored this man for this post.
