child actors

When you’re flipping through TV channels on a lazy Sunday afternoon and you see E.T or a Home Alone movie; no matter how old you are; you stop the flippin’! Because honestly, no matter what age, these movies were kid-magnets while we were growing up. I have to admit; Macaulay Culkin was my second childhood crush (The first one being Simba from Lion King! xP)! Child stars like him rocked the big screen with their natural and innocent talents and we just melted to their every groove. But ever wonder where they are now? Years later? Well, here are 7 child actors, then and now!

#1 FREDDIE HIGHMORE (CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY)

Do you remember little naïve and honest Charlie from Charlie and the Chocolate factory? Well, the character was played by British actor Freddie Highmore who was just 12-years-old at the time. One of the child actors who was too adorable to handle, wonder what he’s upto now!

It’s been 11 years since Freddie Highmore played Charlie Buckett, and he’s still super adorable. Over the years he appeared in many movies like Spiderwick Chronicles, Finding Neverland and The Art of Getting By, to mention a few. He is now a television actor and the lead character of the TV show, Bates Motel.

#2 THE E.T STAR CAST

Oh yes I bet you remember Steven Spielberg’s kid-centric critically acclaimed sci-fi film, Extra-Terrestrial (E.T). This movie was released way back in 1982 and since then the three actors who played Elliot, Michael and Gertie have come a long way. Remember them?

HENRY THOMAS

Little heroic Henry Thomas mesmerized us on the silver screen playing Elliot, E.T’s only human best friend. Awww.

Well now is 44 years old and he hasn’t stayed out of the spotlight. He appeared in films like Cloak & Dagger (1984), Legends of the Fall (1994), and Gangs of New York (2002) and he still is active in the film and television industry.

ROBERT MCNAUHTON

Robert McNaughton played Elliot’s big bully brother. But his character takes a turn for the better when he too gets acquainted with E.T and decides to help save him from the “bad guys”.

Robert McNaughton continued acting but never made it big in the industry. Till date, his best performance has been in E.T. He retired from acting in 2002 and has been working as a mail carrier since then and appeared in 2 movies along with his wife, Bianca Hunter.

DREW BARRYMORE

Baby Gertie was the cutest sight on the silver-screen and she was played by none other than Drew Barrymore. She lit the screen on fire with her cuteness back when she was just 7-years-old.

And continues to do so now; 34-years later! The 41-year old is perhaps the most successful out of the three, enchanting us with her roles she played in several famous rom-coms like Never Been Kissed, 50 first dates and Blended.

#3 ALEX D. LINZ (HOME ALONE 3)

We are aware of the infamous Macaulay Culkin, one of the best child actors that there was, as Kevin McAllister from the Home Alone series. But how many of you remember brave little Alex Pruitt from Home Alone 3; which is a movie that is over-played on Star Movies these days? Right after Home Alone 2, Kevin had to be replaced as Macaulay Culkin had grown too old to play a Christmas Hero protecting his home, on screen. So they brought in Alex D. Linz instead. And he was truly worthy of the role!

Now, 19-yer later, the 27-year-old is still making several appearances but none have ever made it to the big screen.

#4 BEDTIME STORIES CAST

The two kids Patrick and Bobbi who get dragged into reality of the fantastical bedtime stories that their uncle (played by Adam Sandler) makes up was a delight to watch. But what are these famous child actors up to?

Jonathan Morgan Heit played the elder one of the two siblings; Patrick. With his lisp-laden speech and funny “underdemeciation” (i.e. incineration) of big words, Sir Patrick was the perfect brother to his younger sister and a gentleman!

Jonathan is now 15 and is gradually finding his way into the spotlight in television. He’s still very young and extremely handsome.

LAURA ANN KESLING

The cute and big-eyed Bobbi was portrayed by Laura Ann Kesling who is the daughter of an LGPA golfer. Bobbi was her only credited role and the 16-year-old is still very passionate about acting.

#5 KYLA ALISSA PRATT (DR. DOLITTLE)

Kyla Alissa Pratt portrayed Eddie Murphy’s smart, brainy and adorable on-screen daughter Maya Dolittle in the Dr.Dolittle series. And even had her own Dr.Dolittle movie! But since that era of hers, the tidal wave has died down. We see her a little lesser on-screen as she is married and is the mother of 2 lovely kids.

#6 DANIEL AND JOSHUA SHALIKAR (HONEY I BLEW UP THE BABY)

Oh I’m sure we all loved the first one; Honey I shrunk the kids. The so-so follow-up to that one featured Mr. Szalinski accidentally makes his baby massive. That chubby little “big baby” was actually portrayed by twin; Joshua and Daniel Shalikar!

Well now…Daniel Shalikar is a trained firefighter and recently worked as a security officer. He lives in New Jersey. His brother Joshua Shalikar was also a volunteer firefighter and took lessons in marketing. We salute them for giving us the on-screen treat we call Noah Szalinski!

#7 BARNEY CLARK (OLIVER TWIST-2005)

I bet you’ve read or at least heard of the famous Charles Dickens novel “Oliver Twist”. Well, you may or may not know that it was made into a movie back in 2005. At the time, Barney Clark, the lat of the child actors and stars in our list, was cast as Oliver Twist.

The British actor who wowed us with his acting skills briefly lost his way over the years and did his time in prison for attending a rave where he was said to have behaved violently. And unfortunately for him, even his acting career hasn’t treated him that well. He has been doing minor budget movies on and off but a stable career has not yet kicked off.
