Darjeeling has always been a dream holiday destination for many. The city sure has its own charms and still stands proud on the top of the hills, but there are numerous other small towns and villages located amidst the same range of the Himalayas which are absolutely enchanting. So, the next time you plan a trip around Darjeeling, consider any of these five quiet yet beautiful hidden places which are excellent holiday destinations as well:
This quaint destination is located at about 7200 feet. One can reach Lava either from New Jalpaiguri (Siliguri) or from New Mal Junction (Malbazar). Lava is very less crowded during off seasons which make it the perfect destination for those who wish to avoid the crowd. Take a walk through the woods or trek to Rishyap while you are here.
The best way to get to Jhandidara is to reach New Mal Junction by train and take a cab to there. Jhandidara is probably the quietest place on earth. It is a very tiny hamlet with just two accommodation options and just one shop. Jhandi is the place to laze around, take strolls in the hilly roads, watch the Kanchenjugha bathed in the zenith or just to the silence of the night.
This wonderful spot in the Kalimpong district is located almost at an altitude of 2000 feet and can be reached through the scenic Silk Route. Khola in Nepali means a river. So Reshikhola, a small village nestled in the valley get its name from the Rishi river flowing through it. There limited places to stay on the bank of the river, but staying here is an experience of a lifetime!
Ramdhura, near Kalimpong, is very less frequented by tourists and is the perfect place for people seeking solitude. This serene hamlet provides a great view of both the Kanchenjungha Peaks and the valley of the Teesta River. Take a walk through the Pine forests or visit the beautiful Icchey Gaon while you stay here.
Pedong is picturesque town located right on the Silk Route. It is comparatively more crowded than Jhandi or reshikhola, but a stroll through the meandering roads amidst pine woods will surely take all your worries away. One can trek to the ruins of the Damsang Fort, the only fort remaining in Darjeeling, from Pedong.
