The world always laughs on the Indian customs and traditions as naïve and unscientific (and even we do). While we find sitting on the floor uncool or drinking from earthen pots too rustic, most of the traditions have logic behind and are now scientifically proven. These 5 traditions may make you laugh but each one of them has scientific explanation attached that will make you want to start following them.

#1 Sitting on floor while eating

Sitting cross-legged on the floor while eating food not only aids digestion but is also strengthens muscles in the pelvic and abdominal region. While you may think sitting cross-legged is easy; go try sitting first – you will realize how unflexible your body has become!

#2 Fasting on certain days

Like a machine, even our body needs regular maintenance. Fasting helps cleanse and detox our body. If you go to any nutritionist today; s/he will recommend you to detox your body once a week.

#3 Not sleeping with head pointing north

The Earth is a huge magnet and human body too has its own magnetic field. Aligning the north poles of them together will give rise to irregularities and ailments in the human body.

#4 Storing water in earthenware

Earthen pots have minuscule pores in them, which naturally refrigerate the water.

#5 Squatting down to relieve bowels

It has been scientifically proven that using Indian-style toilets is beneficial than the Western-style ones. Squatting down not only helps bowel movement by putting pressure on the gut but also is a good form of exercise.
