Ahead of the release of “Baahubali: The Conclusion”, the producers and distributors re-released “Baahubali: The Beginning”. It seemed like a good idea as it has been nearly 2 years since “Baahubali: The Beginning” released and the re-release would serve as a good revision of the film’s story before the sequel is released. But the nail-biting cliffhanger end of the first part is fresh in everyone’s mind. People are looking forward to the sequel to know the answer to the pertinent question: “Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali”?
People grew so impatient waiting for the answer that heated discussions on Kattappa’s action have resulted in fan theories cropping up everywhere. As we are a few days close to knowing the real answer, let’s look at a few mind-blowing fan theories on “Why Kattappa Killed Baahubali”?
#1 Lost Love
One of the most popular fan theory on the internet is that Amarendra Baahubali and Bhallaladeva, both fall in love with the same girl, Devasena. But she chooses Amarendra Baahubali over Bhallaladeva, who was already enraged on losing the kingdom to him. Bhallaladeva along with his father, somehow, emotionally blackmails his mother and she orders Kattappa to kill Baahubali.
This interesting theory was proposed by Sushant Dahal, a Quora member.
A fan theory suggests that Sivagami (queen mother) had nothing to do with A. Baahubali’s death. The events could have unfolded as follows:
The person who kills the Kalkeya king was to become the king. But Sivagami made A. Baahubali the king, infuriating Bhallaladeva. He would have contested this declaration and asked for “trial by combat”. Somehow, Bhallaladeva wins this combat and thus becomes the king. His first decision as the king is to order Kattappa, who has sworn loyalty to the throne, to kill Baahubali.
#3 Take blame
Some fans suggest that maybe Kattappa didn’t kill Baahubali. He is just taking the blame for someone. If this is the case, then all the efforts made by the fans to think up these fan theories would go to waste.
#4 Loyal servant
Particular scenes from the first movie hint towards the fact that Baahubali either knew that Kattappa was going to kill him, or ordered Kattappa to kill him. This is justified by pointing towards scene where he tells Kattappa that as long as he (Kattappa) is with him, nobody has been born to kill him. Another scene, which shows Kattappa bowing in front of A. Baahubali, as if he is about to obey his orders, validates this theory.
#5 Forced choice
Yet another fan theory states that Bhallaladeva kidnapped his mother and blackmailed Kattappa to choose either the queen mother or A. Baahubali. Knowing that A. Baahubali would never want his life spared at the cost of the queen mother’s life, Kattappa reluctantly kills A. Baahubali.
