#1 American Psycho
Set in late 80s’ Manhattan, this is the story of Patrick Bateman, a wealthy investment banking executive. But, unknown to his co-workers, Patrick indulges a psychopathic ego within him.
#2 The Prestige
The Prestige, a science-fiction thriller drama set in a backdrop of the nineteenth century is about two hostile illusionists Angier (Hugh Jackman) and Borden (Bale). Obsessed with discovering the trick behind each other’s illusions, they get themselves into a dangerous game which destroys their lives, but none seems to expose the mystery of the other’s trick behind the illusion of “The Transported Man”.
#3 The Fighter
Directed by David O. Russel, The Fighter is a story of boxer Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg) and his older half-brother Dicky Eklund (Bale) who is also his trainer. Once a famous boxer, Dicky is now an addict and an unreliable man. An incident makes Micky reach the conclusion that Dicky is trying to use him to restart his own unsuccessful career, he agrees with his girlfriend to ditch his brother. But when a crucial moment arrives in his career, it’s the advice of Dicky that helps him to triumph. Micky must figure out whom to pick and who fits where in his life. Christian Bale’s impeccable portrayal of Dicky won him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2010.
#4 American Hustle
This is the story of two con artists Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale) and Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) who are forced to strike a deal with FBI agent Richie Dimaso (Bradley Cooper). Richie, who is trying to make his mark wants them to help him to catch four white collar criminals in exchange for their release. In their mission to catch the four criminals, they get themselves tangled with bigger fishes than they anticipated. Christian Bale was nominated for Oscar in Best Actor category for his portrayal of Irving.
#5 The Big Short
Based on a book by Michael Lewis, The Big Short is the story of Michael Burry (Christian Bale), Mark Baum (Steve Carell), Jared Vennett (Ryan Gosling) who discover the US mortgage-backed securities market is not stable. Taking the advantage of this situation they try to make their big final score for their lives. Christian Bale once again achieved an Oscar nomination for The Best Actor for this movie.
