Tangra Chicken

Chinese and Kolkata have been married since the 1940s, and the food that has emerged is a great example of delicious and fresh fusion cuisine. And when you think Chinese in Kolkata, you think Tangra Chinese Restaurants in Kolkata. Here is a list of 5 Tangra Chinese restaurants in Kolkata which make for a foodie’s delight!

#1 Tung Nam, Bara Bazar (5/5)

A small and nondescript eating house in Tiretti Bazar, Tung Nam sure packs a punch with the food and quick service. The food is great, the portions are big and the prices are great. The quality of the food is also very good. The ambience is nothing to write home about, and the service is okay-ish. The place is popular, so you can expect to wait for a table on weekends! Really good food, though.

Recommended: Pork anything, actually!
Cost for 2: INR 550

#2 Golden Joy, Tangra (4/5)

Cheap food and a chilled out place. Getting to this restaurant may be a challenge, but once there it is all worth it. It’s a huge space, although parking may be an issue. There is a separate section for families. The thread chicken is very good and goes well with an ol’ rum and coke.

Recommended: Thread chicken
Cost for 2: INR 1000

#3 Golden Dragon, Park Street (4.5/5)

Some of the best Chinese food that’s eaten in Kolkata has to be here. Really, it’s just a no-frills place serving some great food. Prices are pretty decent, no great pocket pinches, but the food is really nice. I’d recommend the chicken vegetable rice, pork wontons and shredded chicken in garlic sauce. The staff is nice and they give you their privacy. Definitely a comfort food place.

Recommended: Shredded chicken in garlic sauce
Cost for 2: INR 700

#4 Buddha Bites, Gariahat (4/5)

The place is tucked into the lanes of Rashbehari Avenue and is walkable from Rubi’s Grill. Space is small, but they’ve done it up with a huge Buddha bust and prayer wheels. The tables are placed very closely together. The food here is great, but they overcharge their soup as it is a very, very small portion. The rest of their portions are huge. Their fried rice is well flavoured. We also tried the fried ice cream and it barely passed muster. All in all the meal here is worth the money and the effort.

Recommended: Roast pork with vegetables
Cost for 2: INR 800

#5 New Cathay, Chowringhee (4/5)

An old all day bar cum restaurant situated at the heart of Kolkata on the iconic Oberoi Grand arcade. The food here is very good and if you want a quick beer or a drink with some quality starters at reasonable pocket pinch then this is the place. Fish liver gin is a unique preparation here. Dry chilly prawn is made differently here but tastes great and is accompanied with boiled green peas. Red pepper chicken is also well made.

Recommended: Fish Liver Gin
Cost for 2: INR 800
