Superhero movies have dominated Hollywood for the past many years. Marvel’s Cinematic Universe and Nolan‘s Batman trilogy have played an important role in making superheroes a part of the pop culture. But when it comes to superhero TV series, the number of viewers goes down. This may be because the concept is relatively new.The journey of the superheroes, which initially began on paper, and went on the big screen, is now finding its way into people’s house, as superhero TV series.

#5 Arrow (TV Series)

Based on the DC comics character Green Arrow, this superhero TV series is developed by writer/producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Andrew Kreisberg. Stephen Amell plays the character of Oliver queen or Green Arrow. You can call this show as the superhero TV series which marked the rise of its kind. Strong plot lines and high action made the show a hit among the audience. Introduction of many characters and major deaths in the later seasons made the show look cluttered and out-of-focus. This is hailed as one of the best American TV shows by fans.

#4 Gotham (TV Series)

The name rings a bell, right? ‘Gotham’, one of the best superhero TV shows right now, is a superhero TV series developed by  Bruno Heller. The show, set in the pre-Batman Gotham, traces the origins of various Batman villains, with Jim Gordon being the protagonist of the show. It also features Bruce Wayne, who is going through his grieving  phase and we can see what anger makes him do. The show was first aired in 2014, and stars Ben McKenzie as young Jim Gordon and David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne.

This superhero TV series is about Superman’s younger cousin, Kara Danvers. The show is gaining momentum and is becoming popular amongst the audience, because of the casting and choice of villains. Developed by Ali Adler, Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, this show was first aired in 2016. Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El aka Kara Danvers aka Supergirl does justice to her role. The second season of the ‘Supergirl’ TV series airs in October, 2107.

#2 Daredevil (TV Series)

‘Daredevil’ marks the entry of Netflix into the superhero genre. This is one of the most viewed Marvel TV shows. The show has dark and gripping story lines, something that it can do as it is not broadcast on television. It traces the story of Matt Murdock who was blinded in an accident as child, which heightens his other senses. Developed  by Drew Goddard, this show stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock or Daredevil.

#1 Flash (TV Series)

When Peter Parker was bitten by a spider, he became Spiderman. When Barry Allen got struck by a lightening, he became Flash. The show features multiple universes, time travel, and a villainous psychic gorilla and Shark man! It was first aired in 2014 and is created by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Geoff Johns. The superhero TV series stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen aka Flash.

Marvel Cinematic Universe’s television expansion also includes shows like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, while Iron Fist, The Defenders and The Punisher are in development. Clearly, the future of superhero TV shows is very bright.
