Russia and Canada are the largest countries in the world by land area. These countries are so huge that part of them inhabitable because of weather conditions and the population is resides at a part of the country. Similarly, there are countries that are less than 200 square miles but are sparsely or densely populated. Travel to these 17 countries is expensive but is worth a visit.

#1 Vatican City

Vatican city is only is 0.2 square miles and has a population of 770. None of the residents are permanent residents.

#2 Monaco

This tiny state lies all along the French Riviera on the French Mediterranean coast close to Nice. An imposing 32,000 people live in this country which is famous for its Monte Carlo casinos as well as Princess Grace.

Nauru with a population of 13,000 residents is only 8.5 square miles in dimension. The state was declared independent in 1968 and was previously recognized as Pleasant Island.

Liechtenstein is only 62 square miles. This microstate consists of 34,000 people and is to be found on the Rhine River between Switzerland and Austria in the Alps.

#7 Marshall Islands

Marshall Islands are 70 square miles. These atolls reefs, as well as 34 islands, were previously fraction of the Trust Territory of Pacific Islands.

Barbados with a population of 280,000 people is only 166 square miles. This Caribbean island is situated on the farthest east of the Lesser Antilles.

#15 Antigua and Barbuda

Antigua and Barbuda is 171 square miles. This Caribbean nation of 69,000 and the 3 islands create this country and they are reliant on tourism.

#16 Andorra

Andorra has just over 70,000 people in its area of 180 square miles. This mountainous tourist destination is puckered in the Pyrenees between France and Spain.

#17 Palau

Palau with a population of around 20,000 is only 191 square miles.  The state was a Trust Territory of Pacific Islands plus is a collection of more than 200 islands in the Pacific.
