And it seems, with each year, mosquitoes are becoming more tolerant of coils, repellents and other products available in market. #1 Plant Trees

It is often a myth that planting trees cause breeding of mosquitoes, however planting the right kind of trees can protect you. Planting trees and shrubs like tulsi, mint, marigold, holy basil, lemon and neem and citronella grass can help your home get mosquito free.


#2 Camphor

The old and continuing tradition of pooja and arti using camphor (kapur) and herbal wood have a scientific reason at their base. Light camphor tablets and let the smoke linger in the hidden and dark corners of your house, keep the rooms locked for half an hour and your house will become mosquito free. The fumes or smoke will cleanse the air and environment of dangerous bacteria and viruses.

#3 Beer
Nobody likes to waste alcohol. Don’t throw away that leftover beer; re-use it to make homemade repellents to keep insects and mosquitoes miles away from your home.

#4 Rosemary Sticks

Burn a few rosemary sticks to keep the mosquitoes away; it is a natural mosquito repellent.

#5 Neem

We all know that neem is used as medicine but did you know that neem can help keep your home 100% mosquito free? Either apply neem oil on yourself or mix the oil with some water and spray the concoction in your house.

A stinky but effective way to keep mosquitoes away is to crush some garlic cloves in water and boil the water. Pour the mixture in a spray bottle and spray it.

While you may love the aroma of lavender; the mosquitoes don’t. They absolutely can not stand the strong smell of lavender and hence use lavender oil to keep bugs away.

#8 Natural Oils

Natural oils like  Indian Lilac Oil and Coconut Oil mixed in equal proportions or Eucalyptus Oil and Lemon Grass Oil mixed equally can be applied to exposed body parts to keep mosquitoes away and also to prevent any skin related infections.

Just inject a few drops of citronella oil in candles and light it up daily on your favorite occasions as an extra precautionary measure. You can also apply it over exposed body parts or spray it in mosquito prone areas.

#10 Dry Ice

Carbon  dioxide  attracts mosquitoes. Dry ice emits a lot of carbon dioxide. Place dry ice in a container and keep it at a certain distance. When all the mosquitoes are attracted towards that container, close the lid.This can be a little time-consuming, but it is an effective method to drive away mosquitoes.

A perfect option for a sound sleep is hanging  mosquito nets while sleeping to keep mosquitoes away.
